LIEBSTER AWARD! Joining the fun and spreading the love.

A special thank you to Kristen from Glitter and Dust for nominating me for the LIEBSTER AWARD! I feel honored! Since I am fairly new to blogging, I thought it would be a great opportunity to answer her questions and allow my readers get to know me a little better! I hope you enjoy!

My Questions and Answers:

1. How did you choose your blog name?
I brainstormed for months until one day Sweat Courage came to me.. I love to sweat (obviously) and that’s how I thought of the first part of my blog name. I also wanted something short and sweet. The second word ‘courage’ came to mind when I rediscovered the card my mom gave me before I ran the Boston Marathon last year. It was my very first Marathon and my mom wrote me a lovely card that had a quote about courage on the outside (“Courage in Women is often mistaken for insanity”- Alice Paul). My mom wanted to let me know how proud of me she was, and thought I had a lot of courage to run the race. The card brought tears to my eyes.

I ran last year’s Boston Marathon for the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE). Skin cancer is what killed my grandmother, and is something that is prevalent in my family. I wanted to make a difference and feel proud of raising over $5,000 for the MFNE. Ironically enough, before the race, my mom also gave me a bracelet with a St. Christopher charm (the protector).. a little ironic given the events of last year.

2. Why did you start blogging?
Starting a blog had been a goal of mine for many years. It was getting started that was the scary part! I started my blog with the intention of sharing my experience Ironman training, but also sharing my everyday life. I also have a huge interest in health and nutrition, and one day want to start my own business! Perhaps this can stem from my blog? Just an idea!

3. What is something that you love about yourself?
Physically: My legs. They are strong and have been through a lot with me… We have definitely gotten to know each other a lot over the years!
Mentally: My endless amounts of energy and my self-motivation (which is at an insane level)

4. If you could pick your dream career, and money wasn’t an issue, what would you do?
I would work from home and have my own health coaching and nutrition business. Even though I would have a ‘home office’ I would be on the road a few days a week to meet with clients and grow my community base. I would get the opportunity to spend time outdoors often and I would not be confined to a cubicle and 9-5 hours. I also have a dream of being an entrepreneur, I have wanted to do this since being a little girl.

5. What motivates you?
Being fit and healthy is who I am and I want to continue to stay this way forever (as long as my body allows it). I want to show others that they can lead a healthy lifestyle and do a race like a triathlon. When I have a family one day, I want to be an example for my children!

6. What are two goals you have for 2014?

  • To hear the words: “Kristin YOU ARE an IRONMAN” after crossing the finish line at IMMT in August
  • To get promoted at my office job

7. If you could give your 16-year old self a piece of advice, what would it be?
It’s not worth the time (and energy) to worry about what others think about you. Life is too short. (I’m still working on this, but at least I’m getting better… right?)

8. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?
To gain some patience. I have ZERO. I think it could really benefit me and those around me, ha ha.

9. Where is one place you have never been that you have always wanted to go?
The Inca Trail in Peru… DREAM hiking vacation.

10. What would constitute a perfect day for you?
It’s summer time… I wake up in New Hampshire and go for a day-long hike in the White Mountains with my husband and dog. This would include spending a good amount of time at the summit, enjoying a PB&J sandwich while taking in the mountain views around us.

You and I are so similar it’s crazy! I could have answered questions 1-5 nearly identically! We should go into business together somewhere in a beautiful town in New Hampshire!
My uncle died of melanoma back in the 1980s and to this day it made such an impact on me that my skin tone most often closely resembles a glass of milk.
Thanks for nominating me! So sweet of you! People may be bored to read my first five questions since they’ll be very similar to yours, but this will be fun!

I love all of your responses and the fact that you are so centered around health and fitness – it’s a great quality to have and to help inspire others. Your Ironman journey is so exciting and motivating. I hope to hear those words someday myself. Oh, and I’m with you on the patience – I have none!
